COURT
APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATES
CASAs
are trained volunteers who represent children in
cases of abuse and neglect in the District of Columbia
Family Court System. They represent one family at
a time, with approximately 1-3 children ranging
in age from birth to 18 years. CASAs gather information
about each child’s situation, submit reports
to the court, make recommendations in the best interest
of the child and provide the court with valuable
insight into the child’s life.
Approximately 2,500 cases of abuse
and neglect are currently in the DC court system.
1,500 new abuse and neglect cases are brought before
the Family Court in the District of Columbia every
year. Our goal is to recruit and train an advocate
to serve every one of the abused and neglected children
in DC. We have recruited dozens of volunteers already,
but thousands of other children need help. Please
help us to help them by volunteering or by making
a tax deductible contribution.

The Four Year Old Parent
| When a
Child Becomes the Four-Year Old Parent is
a story with a message of hope and inspiration.
Born to a teenage mother whose hopes and dream
for her son were shattered by drug addiction,
this blistering memoir will take you on a
journey. A little boy thrust into parenting
at 4 years old when his mother walks out and
leaves him to care for his younger brother.
His first look at the world was through a
broken windowpane to an alley leading nowhere.
He sought to find what his mother was unable
to give him, the opportunity to be a child,
to receive love, guidance and a home to come
back to. It is a story of how against all
odds, he survived and emerged even more determined
to succeed. |
